Shockwave Therapy

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy at Companion Animal Rehab and Athletics (CARA)

At Companion Animal Rehab and Athletics (CARA), we are committed to providing cutting-edge treatments to enhance the health and mobility of your pets. One of our advanced therapeutic options includes Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT), a non-invasive method that uses high-pressure sound waves to stimulate healing in targeted tissues.

How Shockwave Therapy Works

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy utilizes the power of high-energy sound waves to penetrate the affected areas of your pet’s body, promoting natural healing processes. This treatment induces the release of growth factors and cytokines—key signaling molecules that reduce pain and inflammation. Additionally, ESWT encourages angiogenesis (the formation of new blood vessels), improves blood flow, and accelerates bone healing. The energy from the sound waves kickstarts the body’s own reparative mechanisms, offering relief and recovery.

Conditions Treated with Shockwave Therapy

01

Tendon and Ligament Injuries

Effective for conditions such as biceps tendinopathy, supraspinatus tendonopathy, and partial or full tears of the calcaneal tendon.

02

Bone Healing

Useful in accelerating healing at osteotomy sites, enhancing fracture repair, and addressing delayed non-union fractures.

03

Chronic Wounds

Aids in the healing of lick granulomas, pressure sores, and non-healing wounds.

04

Chronic Pain Management

Provides relief from back pain, lumbosacral disease, and symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Treatment Protocol at CARA

At CARA, we tailor the Shockwave Therapy treatment plan to meet the specific needs of each pet. Typically, treatments are scheduled once every two weeks, encompassing a total of three sessions. Following the initial phase, maintenance treatments may be recommended every 3, 6, or 12 months depending on the condition and response to therapy. This structured approach ensures optimal recovery and long-term health benefits.
