Traditional Chinese Veterinary Acupuncture (TCVM) takes in to account characteristic of the patient, behaviors, and environmental factors to develop a holistic approach to acupuncture treatment. Acupuncture needles are placed in specific points on the body that help increase anti-inflammatory mediators and decrease pro-inflammatory mediators. It causes release of endorphins, dopamine, and norepinephrine for pain relief and relaxation.

Patients are fed treats and given pets during their appointment and typically become relaxed and sleepy during a session.

Acupuncture may be used in different ways- Dry needle (needles only), Aqua-puncture (B12 diluted with sterile saline solution) injected into points, or electro-acupuncture (gentle electro-stimulation to the needles). For example, we may use electro- acupuncture on a patient recovering from a neurologic condition for increased stimulation to the nervous system or for added pain relief.

Acupuncture is only performed by a veterinarian with additional continuing education and certification in veterinary acupuncture.
